The 100-150kW chemical looping pilot plant
Vienna University of Technology is active in CLC research since 2002. The main activities on this sector focus on reactor hydrodynamics, detailed reactor modelling, process modelling and process demonstration. In the past years different cold flow models of CLC combustors and the 100-150kW hot unit have been built. Since erection of the hot unit, several test campaigns have been carried out to investigate the performance of the process and of different active bed materials under CLC and CLR operating conditions. The figures below are showing the insulated chemical looping pilot rig and its associated cold flow model.

Measurement instrumentation of the pilot rig:
- FR exhaust gas (online): O2, CO, CO2, CH4, H2
- AR exhaust gas (online): O2, CO, CO2
- Exhaust gas moisture content
- Bed material sampling at loop seals connecting AR and FR
- ISO-kinetic gas/solid sampling
Design specific properties:
- FR operates independently
- Low reactor volume compared to BFB applications
- High potential for scale-up
